Shirley Greene was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, in 1959. Her grandparents were keen naturalists and artists and her interest in depicting the wildlife of that country began in childhood, as she began to sketch and paint the birds and animals that captured her imagination on extensive family holidays. She became intimately acquainted with the wild areas of Hwange, Mana Pools, Kariba, and the Zambezi Valley.

Later, she explored Southern Africa, Namibia and Botswana and decided to make a career of painting due to the many commissions she was beginning to receive.

In 1982 she moved to South Africa, where she was represented by Johannesburg’s Everard Read gallery.

Her work rapidly became internationally acclaimed and she was represented in the USA by Call of Africa galleries in Ft Lauderdale and Naples, Florida.

Shirley has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, and has for many years been accepted into the prestigious international “birds in art” juried exhibition, from which her work has been elected to a select group touring several museums in the USA. Her work has been represented on many auctions raising funds for conservation, including Safari Club International and Christies of London.

Her current projects include preparation for a book of studies and paintings undertaken in the Kruger National Park.
